Choosing a Paint Color

Late last year I was thinking about painting the walls in my bedroom a shade of peach. I have since scratched the idea, in lieu of not painting the walls in a condo that I am only going to be living in for a couple of years. But, I feel like I came up with a pretty affective way of deciding upon a paint color and I thought I would share that with you.

The first thing I thought about was the overall feel that I wanted in the room. I wanted the room to feel like a relaxing beach getaway, a place that I could go to de-stress after a long day of work/school. I picked a pale shade of peach because it made me think of a sunset at the beach.

I then went to the paint counter where there are probably a million little chips to choose from. I picked ever peach shade that I thought might do the job, then I compared them with each other on my cart and made my pick. This process took under 5 minutes. I then bought the small sample pictured below.

I painted a poster board (below) with the sample paint to get an idea of what the paint would look like stretched over a large surface, because lets face it a chip isn’t big enough to make a real decision off of.

I hung this painted piece of poster board over my bed for a couple weeks so that I could see what the color looked like at all different times of day and in all kinds of different light. Turns out, I picked a color that I really liked and will eventually use when I get a more permanent residence.

Do you have any ideas for conquering the paint color dilemma? I would love to hear from you!
